South Adelaide's Under 18's winning start to the season came to an 11.12 (78) to 15.5 (95) end in a tough contest with the Roosters on Saturday afternoon.
It was our courageous Under 18's first loss for the season.
This week we were able to reward Tyler Oliver and Isaac O'Keeffe with their first taste of Under 18s footy and welcome back the inspirational Sam Whitbread from a broken collarbone suffered during the preseason.
Unfortunately Sam suffered another break to his collarbone within the first two minutes of coming onto the ground.
The game was a close one and we were very proud of the way our lads fought it out to the end with only one player to rotate most of the last quarter.
Our boys hit the lead midway through the last quarter but North always had a quick reply whenever we looked to get on top.
Saturday's game was our chance to play for the Sammy D medal which was awarded to the player who played with Courage, Commitment and Spirit in the memory of Panthers junior player Sam Davis.
Sam's parents, Neil and Nat presented the award to Tyler Davies who tried everything he possibly could to lead the team and spent every bit of energy he had.
Tyler was a worthy winner and is an ultimate team first player.
We suffered five bad injuries from the game to Ronan Wood (fractured/dislocated finger), Reece Milsom (broken thumb), Jack Burns (ligament damage), Boyd Austin (Concussion) and obviously the heart breaking injury to Sam Whitbread (broken collarbone).
Next week we travel to Woodville Oval looking to hold on to top spot against the second-placed Eagles.
