Our Under-18's suffered a 37-point loss at the hands of North Adelaide at Prospect Oval on Saturday afternoon.
This week was the complete opposite to last week. We had one of our worst starts for the year, having 10 scoring shots against to one, with North kicking six goals to one and putting us in a poor position.
Our bad luck with injury also continued as Darnell Tucker broke his arm for the second time this year.
In the second quarter we upped our pressure and started to get hold of the ball. The problem was we had to work so hard to kick a goal and then gave up goals too easy the other way.
Jake Tarca kicked three goals for the quarter and we pulled their lead back to 28 points at halftime.
The third quarter was much the same as the second. We had to work really hard to kick goals only to let North kick easy ones.
We had more inside 50s and just as much of the ball, but could only kick two goals through Job Colwell kicking his first and Tarca kicking his fourth.
We looked like we might be working our way back into the game, but with only seconds to go in the quarter we let North kick their fourth and get the momentum back.
The last was frustrating. We gave up the first goal then kicked the next three.
We ended up with four for the quarter, but again a turnover in the last 30 seconds of the game cost us another goal.
This was the pattern of the day. We gave up 11.6 from turnovers or free kicks. This is something we will have to do better next week.
On a positive note, we were 34 points down at quarter time and lost the game by 37. We had more inside 50s and more scoring shots in the last 3 quarters. So if we get the start right we are good enough to compete with North, who we again play against next weekend.
Tarca ended the game with six goals as our most dangerous forward. James Grimley played down back for the first time this year and did a good job and Bailey Marshman continues to present and work hard as a high forward.
We travel again to Prospect Oval for the rematch with North Adelaide next week (11.30am, Saturday, July 28) for our third away game in a row.
