Our Under-18's fell to a 15-point defeat at the hands of West Adelaide at Hickinbotham Oval on Saturday morning.

For the third time this year we lost coming off a bye.

In average conditions we played West Adelaide at home as the first game of our triple header against the Bloods.

It seemed like the 9.10am start was too early for us and we were still asleep when the game started.

West Adelaide, who haven't had a great year so far, came out of the blocks well and looked to have control of the game in the first quarter, kicking four straight against the wind to our two goals.

The second quarter wasn't any better for us going against the wind and for the first time this year we didn't manage to kick a score in a quarter.

Our backs were under enormous pressure. West had 16 inside 50s to our two and if it wasn't for some great work by Aaron Douglass, Danny Juckers and Shannon Jones down back the deficit could have been worse.

Luke Bogle and Tate Lovering continued to push their case for Reserves selection.

After halftime we responded kicking two goals through Daniel Sladojevic and James Grimley. We also managed to keep West scoreless and pull their lead back to seven points at the final break and give us a chance.

With the way the last couple of games have gone the players had belief that we would be able to win although it would be tough going against the wind in the last quarter.

We came out swinging and Sladojevic kicked his second two minutes into the last to bring us within a point.

Unfortunately, that was as good as it got.

West Adelaide managed to kick two for the quarter and we run out of time. The quarter was shortened to 15 minutes to allow time for the Reserves to start on time.

This week we got what we deserved. We can't expect that we can give good sides a start and think we can come back to win every week. There are things we need to get right and will work on them this week at training.

Next weekend we are away at Woodville for the third time this year, but this time against Glenelg at 2.30pm on Saturday, July 14.
