A second-quarter surge saw the South Adelaide Under-18s storm home to claim a 58-point win over Sturt at Unley Oval on Saturday.
The Panthers, who finished with a total of 29 scoring shots, amassed 13 of them during a dominant second quarter display which helped springboard them to a 14.15 (99) to 5.11 (41) win.
Returning from the Reserves and immediately having an impact was Arlo Draper, who finished with a match-high 30 disposals as well as 9 clearances and a goal. Up forward, Hugo Hoeck collected 13 touches and 4 goals while Dylan Brown and Tom Schirmer both added 3 goals to their season tally.
South Adelaide's goal-kicking sprees seemed to come in waves during the match. It took eleven minutes before the Panthers were able to break through with their first goal of the match but they managed to kick a further two majors within the following five minutes.
This effort gave the side a healthy two-goal buffer at the first break, and it also set the stage for the impressive second term display.
Once again the Panthers attacks came in waves, with the side booting 3 unanswered goals within the opening eight minutes. Then they broke the Double Blues defence midway through the second term with 4 straight goals in just ten minutes.
By the time the halftime siren sounded, the Panthers had scored 7.6 (48) during the second quarter while holding the home side scoreless.
After this blistering goal spree, each side would only kick an additional 4 goals during the second half. Schirmer's third and Hoeck's fourth goal came in the final term to help boost the Panthers final score up to 14.15 (99) to 5.11 (41).
This convincing win brings the Panthers to within a point of second spot and just two wins below the top spot.
South Adelaide will now face off against their old rival, Woodville-West Torrens, at Maughan Thiem Kia Oval on Saturday, 3 July.
