South Adelaide's Under 16s got their 2017 season underway with a home clash with Woodville-West Torrens on Sunday morning, succumbing to a 64-point loss.
The Panthers played very well in the first half and found themselves only a few points down at the main break. However, the intensity and pressure that kept them in the contest during the first half fell away in the later stages of the game and the Eagles punished several critical skill errors to take control of the match.
Jack Fitzgerald (21 disposals) worked tirelessly through the middle of the ground, using the ball very well, provided his team with plenty of penetration heading forward and also hit the scoreboard for two goals.
Playing up forward and on a wing, Zach Dumesny showcased his great athleticism and speed, while skipper Daniel Sladojevic (five goals) was dominant up forward early, but his opportunities dried up in the second half.
Tom Neville provided some excellent pressure and intensity on the Eagles ball carriers to help force a number of turnovers and scoring opportunities, while Boyd Austin battled admirably down back, winning most one-on-one contests and using the ball well coming out of defence.
The Panthers Under 16s next face Central Districts at My Money House Oval on Sunday, April 2 from 11:50am.
