South Adelaide's Under-16s took down the Roosters at Flinders University Stadium on Saturday.
After a strong performance on Easter Thursday the boys headed back to their home deck at Flinders University Stadium looking to secure a finals berth.
The opponent was a North Adelaide side looking to also stake their claim on a top 4 spot.
The Roosters started strongly and showed their intent kicking a goal within the first minute.
Christies Beach product Jace Daris kicked a goal to hit back soon after but from there North began to dominate possession and that soon translated in them reaching an early 15 point lead. Late goals to Jack Delean and Sid Draper however had it all tied up at quarter time.
The second period was a tough scrap as Tom Wheaton worked hard on the inside and Blake Rodrigues tried to move the ball to our forward half.
A goal to Phoenix Hargrave had us in front, but North kept fighting hard to hit the scoreboard and it took a late goal on the siren from Delean to have us back in front at the main break.
The boys really reset their focus at half time and when Delean kicked his 4th early on it kick-started a strong run of goals. 2 majors to lively wingman Isaac Churchill gave us a buffer and when Skipper Wheaton drifted forward to score we had put the Roosters under some pressure. However a late goal to North gave them some momentum heading into third quarter time.
We knew what was at stake for both teams and expected them to put up a bold showing which of course they did.
They kicked 3 goals inside 10 minutes to bring themselves right back into but to our boys credit they showed some real composure and gained some control back.
Defenders Nick Schroder and Cooper Bobridge were solid and when KI boy Zak Keir kicked a major we had done enough to hold off the challenge and secure a finals spot.
Jack Delean finished with a match high 6 goals. Wheaton was again consistent with 28 possessions and 11 clearances while Jace Daris worked hard for his 18 touches.
Aldinga wingman Isaac Churchill also had 18 touches to go alongside his 2 goals.
We now host the Eagles on Wednesday afternoon on our home deck as we look to get ourselves ready for finals.
