U16 & U18 Match Report: Round 5 vs North Adelaide

South Adelaide U16s and U18s both suffered losses during their clashes with North Adelaide at Flinders University Stadium on Saturday.

Both of the Panther juniors’ ANZAC matches ended in defeat, with the under-16s suffering a 13.10 (88) to 15.9 (99) loss and the under-18s falling to an 8.9 (57) to 12.11 (83) defeat.

For the Panther under-18s, Angus Bradley (23 disposals, 7 marks, 2 goals), Will Verrall (20 hit-outs, 17 disposals, 2 goals) and Charlie Duncan (33 disposals, 6 clearances) were among the standouts.

And it was the former, Bradley, who got things going for the Panthers with their opening goal of the day.

The match started with a see-sawing affair, with multiple lead changes, and by quarter time just a point separated the 2 sides, 3.1 (19) to 3.2 (20).

This theme continued during the second term as the 2 sides traded blows. This time, the scores were locked at halftime at 5.5 (30) apiece.

However, the visitors began to wrestle control of the match during the third term. Bradley and Verrall both registered their second goals of the game, but it wasn’t enough to combat the Roosters who piled on 4 third-term goals.

The Roosters then ran away with the match during the final term by kicking 3 goals to 1 which set up the Panthers’ defeat, 8.9 (57) to 12.11 (83).

The under-16s clash mirrored the latter stages of this match.

In the under-16s match, Phoenix Hargrave (19 disposals, 10 marks), Jake Agnew (17 disposals, 6 tackles) and Cohen Shortridge (20 disposals, 3 goals) were all impressive.

And these players were among those battling to keep the Panthers in the match as the Roosters had carved themselves a promising buffer at halftime, 6.5 (41) to 8.4 (52).

And things went from bad to worse for South as the blue and white registered a sole major score in the third term yet conceded 5 goals.

However, the boys valiantly fought back by kicking 6 final term goals, but this wasn’t enough, and the siren would sound to signal the defeat, 13.10 (88) to 15.9 (99).

Both of the Panthers’ junior sides will be looking for wins when they travel to ACH Group Stadium on Saturday, April 30, to face the Tigers.

The under-16s will play from 11:00am, and the under-18s will follow at 1:15pm.
