U16 & U18 Match Report: Round 3 vs North Adelaide
Saturday’s matches at Flinders University Stadium saw the South Adelaide U16s thrash North Adelaide by 70 points while the U18s suffered a hard-fought 21-point loss.
The Panther under-16s made the Roosters pay for their inaccuracy by claiming their third straight win of the year, 15.13 (103) to 3.15 (33).
Meanwhile, a costly slow start by under-18s kept them on the back foot for the majority of their 12.5 (77) to 14.14 (98) loss.
Impressive for the Panther under-18s were Angus Bradley (26 disposals, 9 tackles, 3 goals), Jaiden Magor (23 disposals, 9 marks) and Charlie Duncan (26 disposals, 2 goals).
It took standout displays like this to help the Panthers claw themselves back into the match after conceding 6 unanswered goals during the first term.
Bradley’s 2 goals within as many minutes, which came 13 minutes into the second term, were South Adelaide’s first scores of the day.
After this, the Panthers outperformed the visitors, at least on the scoresheet, as they registered 12 goals after quarter-time and conceded 8.
However, despite their efforts, the 6-goal head start proved too costly for the under-18s to come back from—and they fell to the bitter loss, 12.5 (77) to 14.14 (98).
Blake Rodrigues took home the Sammy D Medal after his best on ground performance.
The Panther under-16s match was the opposite.
Kicking 6 unanswered goals in the opening term, the Panthers were in control for much of that match.
Sid Draper led the charge with 29 disposals, 12 marks and 3 goals. While Phoenix Hargrave (31 disposals, 11 marks) and Benny Barrett (24 disposals, 6 tackles, 5 clearances) were also among the standouts.
Following their fast start, the blue and white stormed home to claim a big win by kicking 15 goals and holding the visitors' goalless in 2 quarters.
This 15.13 (103) to 3.15 (33) win sees the Panthers sit a game clear at the top as the only undefeated side left in the SANFL under-16s competition.
The ladder-leading Panther under-16s will look to keep this form going when they clash with Sturt at Wigan Oval on Friday, 15 April, from 11:00 am.
Following that game, the Panther under-18s will then take to the field from 1:15 am in the hope of bouncing back.
