Three Panthers Taken in AFLW Draft
Three Panthers taken over AFLW Draft period.
The South Adelaide Football Club congratulates its three latest female footballers on their rise to AFLW lists this week
Since forming its senior Women's program in 2018 nine players have made the step to AFLW, with Teah Charlton (Adelaide), Indy Tahau (Brisbane) and Tahlia Meyer (St Kilda) being selected this week.
The Panthers have also managed two SANFLW Premierships and a Grand Final appearance in this time.
South Adelaide CEO Neill Sharpe said the Club, its staff, players and supporters should take great pride in the continuing success of the program.
"It's very pleasing that Teah, Indy and Tahlia get to follow their footballing dreams that not so long ago would have seemed unlikely."
"It's a credit to them for their hard work and also all those involved at South Adelaide that we continue to provide these opportunities."
However, Mr Sharpe said there were still a number of challenges confronting the development of future female footballers.
"South Adelaide have now supplied the Adelaide Crows with their No. 1 Draft pick for the last three years and have received no benefit or the ability to re-invest in the program."
"Furthermore, our changeroom facilities for female footballers are outdated and inadequate."
"Our program deserves far greater support from the AFL and all levels of Government to ensure it continues to provide an elite pathway for females to chase their dreams."
