Gypsy Schirmer to depart the Panthers
2022 South Adelaide joint Women's Best and Fairest winner Gypsy Schirmer has informed the club of her decision to make the move to another SANFL club for the 2025 Hostplus SANFLW Season.
The 21-year-old informed the Panthers last week of her intention to move on, marking the end of her time at the club where she has made a significant impact since her debut in 2020.
Gypsy, the older sister of fellow player Esther Schirmer, made her League debut in Round 5, 2020, against Glenelg — a match that marked the return to play after the COVID-19 lockdown.
Schirmer quickly established herself as a key player, participating in nine games in her debut season, including the 2020 Grand Final.
Her progress continued in 2021, during which she played another ten games and was honoured with the 2021 San Remo Scholarship for aspiring footballers, alongside Jason Horne-Francis. She was also named in the 2021 The Advertiser SANFLW Team of the Year on the wing.
Her standout season came in 2022 when she clinched the Panthers Best and Fairest, sharing the accolade with dual B&F winner Nicole Campbell.
South Adelaide Female Football Manager Jonathon Parker acknowledged Gypsy’s departure and expressed the club’s appreciation for her contributions.
"Gypsy has made a great contribution to our club over the past five seasons” Jonathon Parker said.
“While we are sad to see her move on, we thank her for her dedication and service to our football club."
"She will always be a Panther, and we wish her all the best in her next chapter.”
