Thank you Gibba
Bryce Gibbs to hang up the boots.
Bryce Gibbs has informed the club that Saturday's game will be his 77th and last Hostplus SANFL League Match.
Fittingly, Gibbs will play his last SANFL match against Glenelg where it all started in 2005.
Gibbs has played 76 SANFL matches prior to Round 18 against Glenelg and has kicked 46 goals.
Of those 76, 29 were with Glenelg from 2005-2006 and 7 with the Crows SANFL side.
Gibbs would make his League debut in 2005 with Glenelg, before leading the SA's Under-16 team as skipper.
He would play in the National Under-18 Championships, earning All Australian honours, before he was taken as the number 1 pick in the 2007 National Draft taken by Carlton.
Debuting as player #1100 for Carlton, Gibbs would go on to play 10 seasons with the Navy Blues from 2007-2017, including winning the Best First Year Player award in 2007.
He would go on to win the John Nicholls Medal as Carlton's best and fairest player in 2014. He also achieved top-five finishes in eight of his 11 seasons at Princes Park.
Gibbs returned to South Australia in 2018 and played 36 games for Adelaide.
After retiring from the AFL in 2020, Gibbs made the move to Flinders University Stadium where he would find his love of the game again with an outstanding year that culminated in a Magarey Medal and Knuckey Cup.
He would also take the role of Player Development Manager, working closely with Talent Manager and Under-18 Coach Mark Clayton in the developing and mentoring footballers in the Club's talent pathway and throughout its Southern zone.
When speaking about his decision to move to the Panthers, Gibbs said it was good to make the move to a place where he could have a fresh start.
"My time at South Adelaide has been extremely enjoyable." Said Bryce Gibbs
"Obviously coming out of the AFL system, thought I had a couple of good years left in me."
"Making the move to the Panthers, I essentially didn't know anybody, so it felt like I was able to start from a clean slate.""Everyone was very welcoming and I felt like I'd been here for many years. Everyone across the club from the board, players, football department, staff, coaches, sponsors, supporters and the Panthers community, have been very welcoming and shown me a lot of support"
"Although we haven't had the on-field success that we would've liked in terms of winning a flag in my time here, stick with the group. they're not far away."
"I'd just like to thank the entire football club, football department, and members and supporters, thanks for the last three years, it's been really enjoyable.
"I will be looking forward to watching the team's progress in the next couple of years, whether I'm still working at the club or coming as a supporter."
When asked about his impact on the club, Senior Coach Jarrad Wright said that Gibbs has made a significant impact.
"Bryce has made a significant impact on & off the field in his 3 years at the club." Said Senior Coach Jarrad Wright
"His ball winning ability and decision making certainly elevated our midfield in his first season helping the team play off for our second consecutive Prelim Final whilst also picking up the Knuckey Cup & Magarey Medal in 2021."
"Over the past 2 years Gibba unfortunately had some long term injuries which has held him back from his on-field dominance in year 1 but has been a huge part of the development and growth for our very young midfield brigade that is certainly growing every week they play together."
"We thank Bryce for his commitment he has shown over his 3 year journey here and he can definitely look back on his career knowing he has given his all in the 17 years playing at the highest of levels."
