Panther Under-18s Fall to Centrals

After a tough loss against Sturt in round 4 the Under-18s were looking to bounce back against Central Districts.

In the first term it was tight, nothing separating the two sides as both were hungry for a win.

Billy Wilson got the party started with his major, coming just before the 7-minute mark of the term.

A high ball would find itself flying towards the square where Wilson would climb the ladder and take an amazing mark, making sure to finish his work with the set-shot.

Centrals kicked into gear and would win the quarter on the scoreboard, but the pressure was still alive and well in the first.

This would change in the second as the boys would become inaccurate around goal, a trend which followed for the rest of the contest.

Centrals capitalised and began to fire away, kicking four majors in the second term, the Under-18s unable to supply one of their own.

In the lapse Dylan Sharp was clean, finding his players and using the ball effectively, he’d end his game on a team high 30 disposals.

It was a term that was disappointing after how good a first quarter the boys put together.

Down by 29-points headed into the third wasn’t ideal and it unfortunately wasn’t the worst of it.

The opposition would put the boys away in the third slotting five goals while the Under-18s were only able to get one through, as well as a handful of minor scores.

Oliver Goss kicked the major for the Panthers after a hotly contest football would trickle out 25-metres away from the sticks, Goss doing well to kick the goal.

Elliott Duffield and Jacob McGarry would both kick a goal in the final term.

The Panthers look towards round 6 against West Adelaide on Saturday the 27th at Flinders University Stadium in a 1:20pm timeslot.

Fresh off a gutsy win against Sturt in round 3 the Under-16s were looking to bring the pressure against Central Districts.

During the first term the boys were playing catch up as the opposition came out the gate firing.

The Under-16s doing well to maintain composure despite the less-than-ideal start. Centrals would kick two early before Cain Florance would take matters into his own hands with his first major of the contest, steadying the ship.

It didn’t stop the opposition from getting back to their end of the ground as they would move well to get two more majors on the board before the end of the term.

Callan Hart did well to secure his first of the contest, after streaming forward and getting on the end of a well-placed football.

The boys would end the quarter down by 20-points. During the second the boys would bite back.

Kody Shortridge was an important piece in this contest. His first major providing relief early in the term.

The spirits were up and Hart jumped on the back of this as he would kick his second and third during the second quarter.

The second coming shortly after Shortridge work, with a crisp 30-metre set-shot and his third after a Centrals reply later in the quarter while on the move after a smooth passage of play from the wing.

It was a necessary reply after a slow first term, and it gave the boys a nice buffer headed into the third quarter, only down by 16-points, a very gettable margin.

This would unravel in the third as Centrals would start to kick away, the Under-16s having a lapse, only securing one major in the quarter.

Noah Farley kicking the breakthrough while running onto an open goal, slotting in right before crossing the goal line.

Now down but a sizable 29-points going into the fourth it was going to be a battle.

The Under-16s clawed as hard as they could with Shortridge kicking his second and third in the vital moments of the game.

As well as Florance who kicked his second during the quarter. Both players doing well to get to their spots and provide a chance for the squad.

Inevitably it wasn’t enough as Centrals continued to score, leaving the Under-16s down by 23-points at the end of the contest.

The boys will look ahead to round 5 where they will face West Adelaide on Saturday the 27th at Flinders University stadium in an 11:00am timeslot.
