South Under-18s Fall to Norwood

The Under-18s were looking to end the season on a high note, with two games left, the boys were faced with a handy Norwood side.

In the first term, the Under-18s struggled overall. South were doing well to get forward early, but it would eventually turn.

Norwood building a slight lead as the Panthers looked to keep it close, the opposition looking clean to start.

Pressure was still up as every forward entry was made a challenge for Norwood, the backline doing all they could.

It was close and by the end of it, the Under-18s headed into the second down by 13-points.

Patrick Carman did well to slot the first South major of the game, instilling some confidence in the team.

The rest of the term however, was won by Norwood. They’d make an impact and extend the lead by kicking four majors.

The boys kept fighting but it was evident another level would be needed to get over the line.

With a lot left to do, the Under-18s would enter the third down by 29-points.

It was competitive in this term as the boys would do well to equalise. Clearly playing in attempt to bring this game back into contention.

Cohen Shortridge would slot one to get the ball rolling and Brad Jackson would follow this work to give the boys a much-needed boost.

It was seemingly turning around for the boys as they were playing with confidence.

Norwood did well to mitigate the Panthers after this and added a few of their own. The boys doing all they could to keep it close.

By the end of it, the Under-18s were down by 27-points.

In the last quarter, with a lot of work to go, the boys simply didn’t have enough to create a comeback.

Hudson Voigt would secure two majors of his own in the last, these being the only South goals. Norwood would run away in the midst of this.

Norwood would end the day as victors, leading by 45-points.

Oliver Goss ended with a team high 28-disposals as he tried to steer the boys in the right direction.

With one game to play, it would be great to see the season end with a win against Woodville-West Torrens on Saturday the 17th at Maughan Thiem Oval in an 11:00am timeslot.

The Under-16s were looking to keep up their recent form in Round 16 and after a well-deserved break, the boys were ready to bring it for the home crowd.

It was a dominant first term as the Under-16s came out ready to put on a show.

Out the middle, it was clean. When the ball was in hand, the boys made sure to take care of it.

Hitting the scoreboard with passion to start, South got six majors on the board, with Norwood unable to score in the first term.

Impressing all of those watching, the Under-16s would go up by 44-points. This was only just the beginning.

During the second, it was slow going to begin, with Norwood sneaking the first major of the term in.

But this is all the damage that the opposition would do, as the boys began to build towards a large margin.

Going off and slotting another seven goals in the second quarter, everything was clicking, and the strength across the ground was making it look easy.

Slightly inaccurate in their endeavours but nonetheless, the Under-16s extended their lead to 86-points.

It didn’t look like the momentum was going to shift and in the third term, the boys continued to dominate.

Norwood looked shocked at what the Panthers were bringing, as another seven majors would be added to the tally.

It was an amazing feat, with the boys not looking likely to let up at any point. The defensive pressure was solid all day, as any time the ball looked like getting into Norwood’s forward line, the Panthers locked it up.

Archie Van Dyk would sneak forward for a goal in the third, which added to his team high 27 disposals by the end of the contest.

With a quarter left and a 129-point lead in hand, the eventual result was set to push the boys up the ladder.

Norwood would manage to kick another major in this term, but it wasn’t enough to make a dent.

Six more South majors would be added. Kody Shortridge would lead all goal scorers with five, displaying his dominance up forward.

There were 12 unique goal scorers by the end of it which is absolutely astounding.

The offense was definitely flowing, the midfield work was crisp and down back it was fierce. The Under-16s ending the game with a 162-point victory.

With a week to go and now sitting in second, the Under-16s will play their last regular season game against Woodville-West Torrens on Saturday the 17th at Maughan Thiem Oval in a 1:30pm timeslot.
