SANFL Boundary Changes
The South Adelaide Football Club welcomes the announcement by the SANFL of changes to Club Zones which will now see Cove Football Club become part of the South Adelaide zone.
Under the confirmed changes any male or female footballer aged 14 to 18 living in the suburbs of Hallett Cove and Sheidow Park will now be zoned to South Adelaide, unless they were previously registered with Glenelg FC.
South Adelaide CEO Neill Sharpe said it was a pleasing outcome for the Club.
“In the last couple of years we’ve had Tyson Brown, Beau McCreery and Lachie Hayes all play League football with the Panthers so it’s great we can now build on that connection with Cove and officially welcome them as part of our zone.
“The Boundaries Commission have clearly understood some of the particular challenges that South Adelaide has compared to our competitors in making these changes. We look forward to welcoming these new players and their families to South Adelaide now and in the future.
As part of the Boundaries Review, which is undertaken, every 5 years South Adelaide did not lose any of its current zone. Along with the new additions the South zone encompasses areas south of Majors Road and Blacks Rd with the Flagstaff Hill FC on other side of the road being part of West Adelaide’s zone. Flagstaff Hill becomes the only Southern Football League club outside the South zone, while all GSFL and KIFL clubs remain part of the zone.
Historically, a review of the boundaries has been undertaken every five years to coincide with the release of the updated population census information provided by the Australian Bureau of Statistics. The establishment of this Boundaries Commission is consistent with that regular review in alignment with the timeline of the census.
The SANFL advises the primary piece of data used by the Boundaries Commission in 2022 was participation data that is captured through FootyWeb (2021 online football registration system) and this review presented the first time that participation data would be used with absolute accuracy due to developments of the system. That, along with the 2021 Census, the SANFL Spatial Database, expert advice from Adelaide University (Hugo Centre for Population and Migration) provided vital information regarding football participation across all SANFL Club zones.
