Panthers unveil 2023 ANZAC Guernsey
The South Adelaide Football Club will wear a commemorative guernsey for the first time to honour those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our Country.
Based on the traditional South Adelaide Hoops, the guernsey will feature the ANZAC badge and the bottom of the guernsey features a field of poppies with an ANZAC soldier placed above the words 'Lest We Forget'.
South Adelaide CEO Neill Sharpe said it is a privilege to be able to honour those who have served our country.
"ANZAC Day is a day for remembering and taking a moment to reflect and to acknowledge those who have served our country.” Sharpe said.
“I know our players will have a genuine sense of pride in wearing this special guernsey."
"We're also extremely grateful for the ongoing support of the RSL Morphett Vale & District Sub-branch and look forward to participating in their Dawn Service on Anzac Day once again.”
A limited number of match worn guernsey's will be auctioned off and sold with proceeds going directly to RSL ANZAC Day Appeal.
The Club will continue the recent tradition of awarding the Frank Barry Medal to the League team’s best player during the Anzac Round.
The Medal has been named after South Adelaide's first Magarey Medallist, Frank "Dinky" Barry, who was awarded South Australian football's highest individual honour as the competition's 'fairest and most brilliant player' in 1915.
A brilliant rover, he was known for his strong mark, cool and calm approach, precision with hand and foot, and his love to run and baulk.
Barry went on to serve in World War I, embarking with the First AIF to serve in France. Upon returning from the War Barry would never play another game for South Adelaide.
The ANZAC Round match between West Adelaide and South Adelaide will take place at Hisense Stadium on Sunday afternoon, with first bounce at 2:10pm following the Reserves at 11:30am.
The RSL Morphett Vale & District Sub-branch ANZAC Day Dawn Service will be held at the Onkaparinga Memorial Garden at Corner Main South & Flaxmill Road’s, Morphett Vale on Tuesday 25th April 2023 from 6:00am.
Following the Dawn Service a “gunfire” breakfast will be held at the Sub Branch, 8 Robertson Ave., Morphett Vale.
This year the RSL Morphett Vale & District Sub-branch will be staying open after the breakfast with entertainment throughout the day starting at 11am.
This will include music from 'Company of Two' and also games and other activities. The kitchen will be open to provide lunch and afternoon snacks.
