A costly opening term sees the South Adelaide Reserves fall to the ladder-leading Eagles by 42 points at Flinders University Stadium.
With 18 unavailable players on their list, the undermanned Panthers had plenty of work to do in order to knock off the undefeated Eagles but a five goal to two opening term would set the tone for what would become a 8.3 (51) to 14.9 (93) defeat.
Cameron McGree impressed for the Panthers with a Best on Ground performance. Also impressive on the day was Marcus Lippett, Bradley Potter and Justin Evans, as well as the Williamstown recruit, Daly Andrews.
Coming into the match on the back of an 80-point win, the Panthers looked dangerous early as they had the first shot of the day within the first minute of play but just missed.
This then opened the door for the ladder-leading Eagles to boot the first goal of the match, to which the Panthers were able to reply to thanks to a thumping goal by Jake McCreery
But following McCreery's goal, the next four would come from the visitors luckily, the final goal of the term would come via the Panthers to cut the deficit to a little more manageable margin of 2.1 (13) to 5.4 (34).
The second term would see the Panthers enjoy repeated inside 50s but failed to get the reward for it.
The two sides would trade blows, but the Panthers just could not get back to back goals, and still faced a 4.1 (25) to 7.4 (46) deficit at the halftime.
The third term would once again see the Eagles pile on five goals to which the Panthers replied to with a very accurate three goals and one behind.
The Eagles inaccuracy left the door open for a possible late Panther comeback, and things looked promising as South Adelaide opened the final term with a much-needed goal.
Unfortunately, this would prove to be the sole South Adelaide goal of the final term, as the Eagles would run away with the game and hand the Panthers a hard-fought 8.3 (51) to 14.9 (93) loss.
The South Adelaide Reserves will now look to bounce back against Glenelg at ACH Group Stadium on Saturday August 22, from 11:30am.
