The South Adelaide Reserves suffer a 16-point loss against North Adelaide as their spirited fightback falls just short during Saturday's match at Prospect Oval.
Trailing by 26 points at the final break, the Panthers mounted one last comeback and came within ten points of the home side, but it was not enough, and they ultimately fell to an 8.10 (58) to 11.8 (74) defeat.
A duo of Panther recruits were standouts on the day in Ben Sawford and Jack Elsworthy, also impressive down back was Lee Hoey, while up forward, Cooper Machin was dangerous with three goals.
Coming off of their first win this season, South Adelaide managed to match it with the home side during the first half of the opening term however, three unanswered goals by the Roosters to end the first quarter set the tone for the rest of the match.
Using the wind advantage in the second term, the Panthers were able to boot three goals to which the Roosters were able to reply to each time.
Just before the halftime siren, South Adelaide were able to score a much-needed goal, but they still trailed, 4.1 (25) to 7.7 (49).
The third term saw the Panthers begin to build the foundations of a late comeback, but after repeated inside 50s South Adelaide struggled to reflect it on the scoreboard.
The Panthers one and only goal of the third quarter came via Tom Whittlesea, who kicked truly from roughly forty out, and on the boundary.
Despite the Panthers nearly tripling the Roosters scoring shots in the third term, they still headed into the final break with a 5.5 (35) to 9.7 (61) deficit.
However, in a similar fashion to the Panthers league side the Reserves mounted a spirited final quarter fightback, which began just a minute into the final term following South's first-final quarter goal.
On the back of newfound momentum, the Panthers continually sent the ball inside 50, and eventually it paid off thanks to a massive pack mark which allowed South a clear shot at goal to cut the deficit to under three goals.
However, the Panthers fightback would prove to be too little, too late as a Roosters' goal in the dying stages all but sealed the 8.10 (58) to 11.8 (74) defeat.
South Adelaide Reserves now look to bounce back against Norwood at Coopers Stadium on Sunday August 9, from 11:30am.
