A Tale of Two Halves: The South Adelaide Reserves claimed a hard-fought 16-point win over North Adelaide at Flinders University Stadium on Saturday.
After a shaky opening term, the Panthers regrouped and retook the fight to the Roosters which eventually resulted in a stunning win, 12.7 (79) to 9.9 (63).
Impressive in front of the sticks was Jake McCreery who added 4 to his season tally, while Matt Rose welcomed himself back from injury with 28 touches and 9 marks.
After last week's upset victory, the Panther Reserves looked adamant in continuing their run of winsbut it did not look promising early.
The Roosters kicked 3 unanswered goals to start the match before Zachary Dumesny could reply with the Panthers' first major. Then the visitors would continue with two late goals to hand the Panthers a 1.0 (6) to 5.2 (32) deficit at the first break.
The Panthers, who had the wind advantage during the second term, peppered the goals during the early minutes but to no available.
After some tense minutes, Nicholas Kraemer was able to sneak his kick inside the posts for the Panthers first major score in almost 20 minutes of play.
With Lachlan Williams and the Panther backmen causing some headaches behind the ball, the side was able to force a turnover and on the rebound, find Damon Freitag who quickly snapped his first of the day.
McCreery then followed up with a thumping goal from beyond the arc in the dying minute of the half which brought the deficit down to just 4 points.
The Panthers gained the dream start to the third term as Jesse McKinnon cleared it from the centre bounce, then followed up to gain possession at half-forward and kick truly on the runall within just 20 seconds.
Sam Gaden opened his scoring midway through the third term to help keep the Panthers in front, but the Roosters kept desperately pushing for some major scores as their time with the breeze was running out.
However, Jaidan Kappler broke through with his signature run and carry, he then hit up Daniel Sladojevic whose kick inside 50 was finished with McCreery's second.
Zoo then struck just a minute later with his third, which set up a massive fourth term as just 2 points separated the two sides. McCreery followed up with his fourth goal to open the Panthers account in the final term.
Then Freitag had his kick labelled as a goal, and the Panthers began to run away with their final term momentum.
The icing on the cake came from Panther Under-18s player, Hugo Hoeck, whose thumping goal after the siren handed the Panthers the hard-fought 12.7 (79) to 9.9 (63) win.
The win, which sees the boys climb to the sixth spot, was no doubt helped by those quarter-time changes as the side scored 11 goals to 4 after the first change.
The South Adelaide Reserves will take the long journey out to X Convenience Oval for the second time in three weeks when they face off against Central District on Saturday, 21 August, from 11:15am.
