A slow starts sees the South Adelaide Reserves suffer a 44-point defeat against Sturt at Unley Oval on Saturday.
The Panthers, who were facing off against the third-placed Double Blues, went scoreless for the opening term which set the tone for their 6.5 (41) to 12.13 (85) defeat.
Impressive for the Panthers was Nicholas Kraemer, who finished with 23 touches, 15 tackles and a goal, while Fraser Turner collected 28 disposals, 8 marks and 6 tackles.
One positive sign for the blue and white was that the Panthers Reserves welcomed back a returning trio of injured players: Luke Bogle, Anthony Biemans, and Daniel Sladojevic. They also welcomed Under-18s player, Luke Mitton.
The Panthers did not register a major score until 39 minutes into the game, but it was a poetic score as it was Sladojevic who kicked truly to celebrate his long-awaited return to football.
It would be some time before drinks again for the Panthers, as the next major would not come until deep into the third term, courtesy of Ollie Megins. Then, minutes later, Lachlan Williams struck to hand the Panthers back-to-back goals for the first time during the game.
Trailing by eight goals at the final break, the Panthers showed some fight during the final term as they outscored their opponents, 3 goals to 1. But the damage was already done, and the Panthers fell to a 6.5 (41) to 12.13 (85) defeat.
The Panthers will look to find some winning form when they face off against the Eagles at Flinders University Stadium on Saturday, 3 July, from 10:55am.
