South Adelaide Reserves kick off the 2021 season with a twenty-one-point loss against Norwood at Flinders University Stadium on Good Friday.
The Panthers held a three-goal lead at halftime, but sadly it proved to be a tale of two halves as the Redlegs stormed home to win, 9.9 (63) to 14.10 (94).
Things looked shaky during the first quarter as Norwood opened the scoring with the first goal of the game after just fifty seconds.
But the Panthers, who were well-supplied in the ruck by basketball convert Ollie Megins, managed to wrestle the game back into their favour.
South Adelaide's first goal of 2021 would come via Sam Gaden, while Luke Bogle and Fraser Turner would follow up moments later to hand the Panthers three goals in as many minutes.
Turner, the Richmond recruit, would go onto finish the match with a game-high total of 29 touches.
Fellow Tasmanian product, Mitch O'Neill also impressed with 15 disposals and 9 clearances.
Sam Hindes was also impressive in the air, finishing with a game-high of 8 marks.
Heading into the first break with a promising two-point buffer, Norwood would once again open the scoring as the booted two goals within the first four minutes of the second term.
Max Clifton was able to stem the tide with his first goal of the day, while Darnell Tucker opened his goalkicking account with a classy snap from the pocket.
Tucker, along with Cooper Machin, would strike in the dying minutes of the quarter to hand the Panthers a three-goal lead at the main break.
However, from here it was all the Redlegs, as the visitors piled on ten unanswered goals to all but seal the Panthers Round One defeat.
Aaron Douglass and Zac Dumesny both kicked goals within the final minutes of the match, which was the first Panthers' major for over fifty minutes of play.
The South Adelaide Reserves will look to bounce back against North Adelaide at Prospect Oval on Saturday, April 10, from 11:30am.
