Matt Rose steps down from the Captaincy
South Adelaide Football Club stalwart Matt Rose will step down as skipper.
The South Adelaide Football Club would like to inform members and supporters that Matt Rose will not lead the side for the 2023 Hostplus SANFL League season.
After a tough run with injuries, Rose feels like this is the right time to step away to focus on his body and own football.
"Feel like after 4 years in the role and at 31 years of age it is the right time to step away from the role."
"I've had a bit off a rough run with injury in recent years and feel taking a step back will allow me to concentrate on getting my body 100% right so that I can have a strong impact on the field this year."
"The club is in a great position with our playing group and football program at the moment and the excitement around the place is at a real high."
"I know that whoever is lucky enough to take on the role next will do a fantastic job in leading us to the ultimate success we are all after."
Rose was first appointed Co-Captain in 2019 alongside dual Magarey Medallist Joel Cross.
Since coming across to the Panthers in 2014, after the realignment of the Magpies and the Power, Rose has been a consistent member of the leadership group since being named Vice-Captain in 2016.
The ever courageous Rose played his 150th SANFL match in 2019 and could join the 200 club if the Panthers play every game including all finals in 2023.
"It was a huge honour and privilege to be captain of such a proud club, and can’t wait to see what we can achieve as a football club this year."
