South Adelaide Reserves fall to a heartbreaking 3-point loss against North Adelaide at Prospect Oval on Saturday.
The Panthers led by 16 points at the final break, but they couldn't withstand the Roosters' fourth-quarter fightback that resulted in an agonisingly close loss, 10.9 (69) to 11.6 (72).
Strong for the Panthers once again was Tate Lovering (24 disposals, 9 marks). While Jake Cresswell and Jacob Collins impacted the scoreline with 3 goals each.
South Adelaide was put on the back foot early as the Roosters kicked the opening 2 goals of the match within as many minutes.
It took until the seventeenth-minute mark that the Panthers registered their first goal, courtesy of Collins. Then, just 2 minutes later, Cresswell banked his first of the day.
Following this sudden burst, the Panthers conceded 2 late goals to head into the first break facing a 12-point deficit, 2.2 (14) to 4.2 (26).
The Panthers heavily shifted the momentum of the match during the second term.
They wrestled control of the match by registering 5 goals: singles to Brian Gill, Sam Gaden and Ben Shillabeer, while Cresswell and Collins registered their second goals.
However, a late Roosters goal cut the Panthers' lead to 7 points at halftime, 7.4 (46) to 6.3 (39).
Gaden kicked things off after halftime with his second major of the match. Cresswell and Collins also registered their third goals of the game—and, by now, it was starting to look like the Panther Reserves may have been headed to their first win of the year.
Grasping onto a 16-point lead at the final break, 10.7 (67) to 8.3 (51), the Panthers began to run out of legs during the final term as the home side mounted a final-quarter fightback.
Lachlan Hayes (21 disposals, 8 marks) and Reece Milsom (18 disposals, 6 tackles) were among those who kept fighting—despite carrying heavy legs.
But ultimately, a Roosters goal in the dying stages of the game sealed the Panthers' fate. The siren would sound to signal the narrow 10.9 (69) to 11.6 (72) loss.
The South Adelaide Reserves will look to snap their winless streak when they face off against Sturt at Flinders University Stadium on Friday, 15 April, from 10:30 am.
