The Panthers take down the Crows
The league side were looking to get another win on the board, taking on the Crows they were out for revenge after just narrowing losing in round 1.
The two debutants inSam Hindes and Bailey Pilmore both made an impact in this contest.
It was a high octane first term as the Panthers looked to get the game started in a great way.
An emphasis was made on the defensive pressure of the squad in this quarter as it was clear the backline was looking to make an impact from here.
Switching well and doing well by foot to navigate out and get forward into good spots.
The first major would come in rare fashion. Pilmore on debut would kick a blinder of a set shot from just shy of 50-metres with his first SANFL kick, it was absolute scenes when this major sailed through.
It was swiftly followed by Damon Freitag as the boys looked to build a lead.
This was thwarted and the squad would end the quarter down by 3-points.
These sides were hard to separate but in the second the boys did their best to make this difference more prominent.
Hindes the other debutant was lining up for his first major early in the second quarter.
Getting loose with the play developing up the ground he’d be left alone and lining up from 25-metres out, the kick was pure, and the boys flooded his way.
It was a strong showing around the ground as Adelaide were only able to kick one major, off the back off some strong defensive play.
Tom Wheaton with his 40-metre set shot would kick the other South major and gave the boys the lead.
It would dry up from here as neither side could break through. Only a few minors would follow, and the Panthers would end the half up by 6-points.
The contest was a battle until this point and getting apart from the opposition was a challenge.
Damage up forward was far and few between and the game was going to be won by the better defensive squad.
Transition from this area was impressive as the short 45 out the backline was slowing cracking at the opposition. Elliot Dunkin was notable in this role as his 31 disposals were crucial in the contest.
Hindes would kick his second major and prove that he was in the squad for the long haul.
It wouldn’t be until late in the quarter when Wheaton and Freitag would slot their second goals of the game and separate the boys ever so slightly.
Time would wind down on the quarter and the boys would end up being in the lead by 21-points as it finished up.
The Panthers could sense what was on the line as they were nearing towards their second win of the year.
It was the Panthers game to lose, and the boys gave all they had to get over the line.
Adelaide brought the game back into contention late as Finn Emile-Brennan was the only Panther to slot a major in the midst a late rush by the Crows.
South were doing all they could to win this game and would hold strong, Kobe Mutch leading disposals with 32 as his work in the midfield was crucial.
The siren would sound, and the Panthers were the victors, the gameplan was in place and it was effective, making great use of the switch and transition football out of the defence.
Their next contest will be against Central District on Saturday the 15th at X Convenience Oval in a 1:10pm timeslot.

The reserves were looking to bounce back in round 9 against West Adelaide in what was going to be a great contest.
It was a battle in the first as the ball was finding itself sitting in transition for a majority of the term.
The Panthers would get on the board first with Kaleel Ross doing his job around the sticks, his 25-metre set shot looking pure.
After this point it became a game of defensive pressure as well as stern movement from this area of the ground. Jonti Schuback was great in this role as he would garner a lot of the ball across half back, ending with 26 disposals.
West Adelaide would fire away with a few majors.
Down by 10-points after the first the groundwork was laid.
The boys began chipping away at West in the second as they would own the term quite comfortably.
Ross was firing away again as his second would get the boys back in the contest.
It was a slow grind, and it began in the guts and through the fierce stoppage work.
Noah Goldie and Aiden Grayson would both affect the game with their majors, and it was clear it was going to be slow and particular when moving forward.
At the end of the half the boys did well to keep the opposition at bay through hard work down back and would be in the lead by 9-points.
It was a tussle in the third as Westies would keep their nose in the game by firing back and navigating through the fierce traffic.
The Panthers did well to keep the pressure up and make sure this game would stay in their favour.
Nic Dunshea would provide a major within an impressive opposition attack, allowing the Panthers time to breathe and get back to what was working.
Clean across the ground and generating well from the backline, it was evident the gameplan was being picked apart.
Zac Dumesny was also impactful late in the quarter with his major, from 40-metres out he’d get the game back in the Panther’s favour, leaving them up by 2-points with one to play.
The last quarter was stressful to say the least as the series of minor scores would keep everyone on the edge of their seats.
Hugo Hoeck would relieve the stress with a major and it was clear the Panthers were close to getting over the line, West Adelaide struggled to get through the backline.
Corey Grocock would kick the last for the panthers and it was enough as no majors were kicked by the opposition.
An 18-point win for the reserves came at a great time and they’ll look to keep the streak going against Central District on the 15th of June at X Convenience Oval in an 10:30am timeslot.
