The Panthers dominate Yartapuulti

The league side fought hard in their last contest and barely lost to a formidable Woodville side. With the hope of getting the first win on the board there was no better chance than in round 7 against another winless side in Yartapuulti.

Some exciting news came ahead of this contest, Harvey Lambert and Lachlan Scott would lace up for their first game as a panther, both eager to add something to this side.

In the first quarter the boys would pile it on early Liam Fitt would kick the first of the day, following this up later with his second.

Lambert on debut came to play as he supplied two majors in this term, showing his value straight away.  P

utting his foot skills to good use and helping reward the efforts of his teammates.

Eamon Wilkinson and Hayden Sampson would all also help out in the offensive effort with their majors.

Across the rest of the ground the boys were holding strong and keeping the pressure up to mitigate the possibility of a rally from Yartapuulti.

Down back this was noticeable as anything that came their way was stopped and turned into a reply up field. Running with purpose early and using the half-backline to flood forward and provide opportunities.

At the end of the term the league side had an impressive 29-point lead.

In the second quarter the boys continued to dominate, and it was clear they knew what was at stake and were ready to put their foot down.

After an early major from the opposition the Panthers would close off anything that the power would throw at them, kicking a modest five majors in the quarter.

Damon Freitag was reliable as always in front of goal to get it rolling for the squad with his first,Jacob Collins doing the same later in the quarter.

Fitt and Lambert would secure their third majors in this quarter and show some fancy moves in the process. Wilkinson would also kick his second to make sure the opposition had no chance of coming back.

It was a fortress that the Panthers had created in this game so far, really making sure to use the run from down back and through the middle to get the ball into scoring range.

At the half the boys were up by 53-points and weren’t looking like slowing up anytime soon.

After a dominant display in the first half, it would balance out in the third as Yartapuulti would get some of their confidence back.

Wilkinson with his third was all class to start the term while Fitt would continue to dominate up forward and secured his fourth in the early segments of the quarter.

Yartapuulti would go on a run, and it would come to a halt with Charlie Duncan’s first major before the end of the quarter.

It was clear the pressure acts were winning this game for the Panthers, Oliver Davis leading this charge with his 8 tackles.

The defensive structure in this contest was top notch in ensuring Yartapuulti weren’t able to score in bunches.

In the last term the consistency held true as the defence stopped the opposition from doing a lot of damage, only one major sneaking through.

Collins would get his second, Fitt would get his fifth in style while Wilkinson would add the cherry on top with his fourth major. All deflating for the opposition.

Kobe Mutch would end his day with 32 disposals, getting around his defenders with ease and making sure to set up all of the boys.

It was clear the league side knew this game was gettable and wanted to make a statement, locking up down back and moving the ball with pace to get the first victory of the season.

The energy was next level and the league side had finally broken through and got the 73-point win.

This is the football the league side is capable of, and it can really be a turning point for the squad.

Their next game will be against North Adelaide on Sunday the 2nd of June at Prospect Oval in a 2:10pm timeslot.

Tough Going Against Sturt

The reserves hit the road for a early morning clash against Sturt.

In the first term it was clear the reserves were hungry for it, after a strong start from the double blues the squad would get forward and supply two majors.

Benny Barrett would get it started after a clean pickup from a stoppage, while Blake Rodrigues would follow suit later in the quarter with a smooth set shot from 40-metres out.

The back six were holding strong in this term making sure the boys in the middle and up front could operate.

It would unfold late but the work rate was still up despite going down by 3-points at the end of the term.

Oscar Lovelock would start the second quarter in style as his major would shift the odds back to the Panthers. He’d supply his second major in the latter portions of the quarter as well.

This is where the run would end, Sturt navigating with ease through the defence. Putting a quick three majors on the board through the middle portions of the term.

Nic Dunshea was an important factor at the end of the term as his major would lessen the deficit for the reserves, lifting the pressure off the squad slightly.

At the end of the half, it was a 10-point margin, the reserves showing they were up for the task at hand.

The reserves would struggle up forward and despite the defensive pressure the opposition would extend their lead to a considerable amount.

Jonti Schuback was impressive during the quarter, and he’d end the game with a sizeable 29-disposals.

It would end up being a 32-point difference headed into the final term.

The offence was firing early for the Panthers as they attempt to muster a comeback.

Rodrigues would do well to secure his second at the start of the quarter while Corey Grocock would supply his first in an effort to get the boy back on their feet.

It gave some much needed momentum to the squad, but it was sad to see the scoring dwindle.

Down back the boys kept strong and only two majors would get through. Providing an opening for the Panthers to siege.

Bailey Pilmore would get one more to go through and it would unfortunately not be enough for the reserves to get over the line.

It would end in a 27-point loss for the reserves, their next chance will be against North Adelaide on Sunday the 2nd of June at Prospect Oval in a 9:20am timeslot.
