The Panthers Overpower Port

After a narrow loss in the League side's last contest, the Panthers were looking to rebound. Faced against Port Adelaide in a Sunday afternoon clash, the boys were looking to get the job done.

A milestone has been reached by one of the League players, this time around it was the big fella Damon Freitag, he laced up for his 50th game, a win being the only thing to make it even sweeter.

In the first term, the Panthers came out firing on all cylinders. The side kicking six majors in the quarter.

Eamon Wilkinson was silky in front of the sticks to get the League side off the ground.

It was clean as could be, the whole squad were silky when the ball was in hand.

Down back, almost all attempts were thwarted as the grip the Panthers had on this game was intense.

Callum McCarty and Oliver Davis would get on the end of one each, while the milestone man would be awarded a free kick which would allow him to kick his first on the big day.

Corey Grocock would slot two also, doing well to give the boys an edge at the start of the game.

By the end of it, the side were up by 30-points, a sizable lead that can only be built upon.

The intent was followed up in the second quarter, although Port did well to find their footing, the Panthers still held strong.

Transition from the back kept the boys in this contest, making sure to rebound with purpose out that side of the ground.

Wilkinson would strike early again as his second major was pure, ripping the ball out the contest and getting it to go through the sticks while under pressure.

In the midst of the quarter, Grocock would manage to get on the end of two more majors as he began to build towards an impressive day out.

Port were keeping their nose in the contest and making it hard for South to operate.

The boys were working hard to keep the lead intact and by the end of the half, the boys had a 24-point lead.

The third term was power struggle as the opposition did well to mitigate the run the Panthers had been generating in the contest.

It became an issue to get out the defensive fifty, the pressure taking a step up for most of the term.

As time ticked, on the League side had wilted down the opposition, kicking three majors in quick succession.

Liam Fitt and Sid Draper would both kick one, while Grocock got on the end of his fifth.

Making use of the short kick was impactful, rolling the dice and pressing with force in a way to ensure this game was under control.

With a quarter to play and a 34-point lead in hand, it was looking like the boys were about to be on the end of a gutsy win.

Port were ruthless in the last quarter as they pressed South into a scary situation.

Fitt did well to relieve the stress during the quarter with his second. This was followed by Hayden Sampson as he pressed forward and added a major to his 23-disposal performance.

The opposition would do well to close the gap, but it was too late for them as the Panthers had put in enough work early to get over the line by 15-points.

It was an onslaught for the defenders in this term, a testament to their work rate as they never wavered.

It was great to see the League side on the end of a win after a tough few weeks. Their next game will be against West Adelaide on Saturday the 27th at Flinders University Stadium in a 2:10pm timeslot.

The Reserves have been in some great form in the month of July. As they hope to build towards finals, they were faced with North Adelaide in Round 15, looking to secure a win against the Roosters two weeks in a row.

In the first quarter, North came out their corner swinging, catching South off guard and leaving the boys down by a few majors early.

Despite this, the Reserves held strong and did well to apply some scoreboard pressure. Nic Dunshea, Blake Rodrigues, Harvey Lambert and Zachary Dumesny all kicking majors in the first and doing their part to help steer the team in the right direction.

North would do well to reply and keep the contest interesting but the Reserves were impressive despite this. The work down back was astounding, making sure every contest was a battle.

Bailey Pilmore would end the quarter with a major, giving the Panthers a 17-point lead at the end of the term.

In the second, it was a tussle, with the Reserves doing well to stop the opposition from getting forward.

Around the stoppage, it was impressive, as North were struggling to win these contests.

Pilmore would kick the only major of the quarter, as his second came early in this term.

By the end of it, the boys were up by 18-points, and it was looking positive across the board.

It would continue in the third, as the Panthers would dominate the term. North was unable to facilitate any play as the boys tightened their grip.

Darren Walters would kick one early while Dakota Sterzl and Benny Barrett did some damage late to extend the lead and put the boys firmly in the driver’s seat.

The pressure was immense, with North only managing to kick one point, a testament to the work down back.

With a 39-point lead and a quarter to play, it was looking like the boys were going to get the job done.

In what was a complete 180, the Reserves would go on and only kick one point to finish this game out.

North doing well to dictate the quarter, applying some pressure and bringing the contest into closer contention.

The defensive pressure would heighten with this, as the Reserves were determined to get the win.

After the siren sounded, the boys had done enough to get over the line. A 20-point victory, this placing the Reserves into the final’s territory.

Jacob Collins was impressive in the win, his 24 disposals aiding in every play he was involved with.

A well-deserved win for the Panthers, their next game will be against West Adelaide on Saturday the 27th at Flinders University Stadium in an 11:30am timeslot.
