A Close Battle Against the Roosters.
It has been tough going for the League side this year, they were looking to get some confidence back in the clash against North Adelaide.
A familiar face would make his debut in this contest. Phoenix Hargrave who has been carving up in the Under-18s was making the jump to League footy, his skillset ready to translate to this higher level.
The side was set in an unfamiliar setting, headed down to Victor Harbor oval in the hopes of bringing home the win.
The first quarter was competitive, the side doing well in adjusting to the climate. Liam Fitt got it started early with his major, doing well to emerge from the contest at ground level with the pill and finish his hard work.
Damon Freitag would do well in following this shortly after, giving the boys a great start in the contest.
Down back, the boys were holding incredibly strong, aside from a few scores the side was doing well in the air and creating a stoppage at any point they could.
It would clog up for the remainder of the quarter, but the boys would do well to keep on top. They’d end the quarter up by 5-points.
There was plenty of time left, with the second term remaining relatively competitive. North were ferocious to start, but luckily enough were inaccurate in their attempts up forward to start.
Freitag would slot his second after the side's early struggle. His set shot on the tight angle from around 40-metres out was pure.
Eamon Wilkinson was flashy in the follow-up, reading the boundary tap with precision and finishing while on the line in an impressive fashion.
North did well to reply to this and the League side would do their best to keep it close headed into the third. The side going down by 10-points in the lead up to the second half.
It was still close; the boys could sense a win on the cards as they turned it up a level in the third term. Everything began to click in this quarter across the entire ground.
The run was being generated from the impressive work being made down back. Oscar Clavarino was awesome down back with his play creation, making use of his damaging kick, alongside his astounding aerial work, ending the contest with a team high 14 marks.
Fitt would provide once again with his second major, starting the term on a great note.
Despite the reply, the Panthers didn’t drop at any point, making use of the opportunities they were creating in this quarter.
Finn Emile-Brennan and Sam Hindes would also kick a major in this term, but it was debutant Hargrave who’d steal the show, kicking his first league goal. It was electric and the boys rallied in the milestone for the young star.
After the impressive term, South were right back in it, being down by just 1-point headed into the last quarter.
North would once again blaze forward to start the last, and once more doing so considerably inaccurately.
With this, the Panthers were unable to maintain possession of the football around the ground, making it a challenge to close the contest out.
The boys managing to get forward late in what was a thriller of a finish. Freitag would slot his third and Hargrave putting in the work once again for his second goal. This would bring the game back to just 1-point with time running low.
With victory nearly in grasp, it would slip away in a late reply by North, leaving no time for the League side to get forward and close the deficit.
It was an absolute battle and the League side were so close, going down by just 8-points.
Despite the loss, it was a positive display, as the pressure was through the roof, making it known that this side would always bring a fight.
Elliot Dunkin would lead disposal getters on the team with his impressive 33. It was a fierce effort in what could have been a great win, but it wasn’t meant to be.
The League side's next chance will come against Port Adelaide at Alberton Oval on Sunday the 21st in a 2:10pm timeslot.

After a thrilling draw in the Reserves last contest, it was clear the side was looking to get over the line and bring home a win against North Adelaide.
At the home deck, the conditions were looking good and the boys were prepared for a pivotal clash.
Hugo Hoeck started the first quarter off with a bang. Doing well to convert on his and the team’s first major of the day.
Although the Panthers wouldn’t slot another for the rest of the quarter due to the intense pressure around the ball,
Down back, the assignment was clear, making every contest a battle and keeping the ball at ground level, mitigating all the run North tried to make.
They would sneak through for one late, causing the game to be in favour of the Panthers by a slight margin of 2-points.
This theme would continue into the second term as the contest would remain relatively even.
It was a back-and-forth battle to say the least. The Panthers would kick one and North would eventually retaliate.
Nic Dunshea, Chester Foster and Darren Walters doing the damage up forward, as each would slot one in the effort of extending the lead to a more comfortable position.
The pressure was going to keep the boys in the contest, as North weren’t going to back down at any point.
After the blow-for-blow bout in the second, the Reserves only managed to extend the lead to a 9-point deficit. A trend in the right direction.
The first half was a complete 180 to what transpired in the second half of football. North Adelaide would dominate in the third, undoing all the work the boys had made.
South were only able to slot one point, while North kicked away and put the boys behind in a shocking turn of events.
It was tough to stop the transition play, the pressure let up and the opposition took it and ran.
By the end of the quarter, the boys were down by 23-points in what was fair to say a complete lapse.
However, this lit something up in the side, clawing back in the fourth and bringing this game back into thrilling contention.
North, similarly to the Reserves, in the last term were only able to kick one point, opening the door for the boys to bring themselves back.
This is a testament to the defensive lines, battling at every contest and making it pure torture for the opposition.
Hayden Kernahan was a rock back there, making use of his powerful legs and doing well in the aerial contests.
Dakota Sterzl would slot two majors in the effort to put North away, while Zachary Dumesny and Bailey Pilmore would get forward and help deliver the crushing blows to the opposition.
The pressure was immense, with the boys laying 80 tackles in this contest, a plethora of those coming in this term.
With this late surge, the boys managed to get over the line by 1-point. A massive effort in what looked like a lost contest.
Ethan Roberts was damaging in the win with his 25 disposals from the midfield.
A nail biter for sure, the Reserves will have the chance to back it up against North Adelaide in a back-to-back contest. With the hopes of pushing towards a finals series. This time being played at Prospect Oval on Saturday the 20th in an 11:20am timeslot.
