The Panthers Go Down Against the Dogs.

The League side were rolling into their Round 10 clash against Central Districts in high spirits after their impressive win against Adelaide.

Looking to back up their performance in overcast conditions, the boys were also playing for a purpose, as debutant Hayden Kernahan was lining up for the first time as a Panther in this much anticipated contest.

Centrals would come out strong to start the contest, leaving the Panthers on the back foot early. The boys making sure to rally after this fact.

It was important to lock up the opposition early, vital in setting a precedent and stance for the rest of the game.

Liam Fitt would get on the end of two majors in quick succession during the middle portions of the term making use of his opportunities and pumping the tyres of the Panthers after a slow start.

This allowed the boys to play with confidence for the rest of the quarter and it worked well, although the scoreboard didn’t tell the story, it was clear the League side were clicking on all levels.

Tom Wheaton would get the third major to go through. After a great transition play from down back, the boys would work it up by foot and find Wheaton on the run, his kick from 50-metres pure as it comes.

This transition football was the standard, and it allowed the boys to maintain a 6-point lead at the end of this first.

Unfortunately, the efforts were unravelled in the second term, the Bulldogs finding the holes in the Panthers’ schemes and not allowing them to get forward.

The backline was under the pump, and they managed to keep the bleeding to a minimum, a commendable effort in what could have been scary for the League side.

After a strong debut, Sam Hindes was powerful in the air during this term, ending with a team high 7 marks.

South were unable to score in the second quarter and would end the half behind by 15-points.

Looking to forget about the quarter that unfolded, it was clear the boys were in their own heads as they played a lot safer in the third.

It was unfortunate to see as Centrals would continue to pile on the majors while the Panthers would struggle to get forward.

Once again, the backline was holding as strong as they could, Darnell Tucker a player to mention as he was making use of his time with the ball to try and get the boys out of trouble.

Despite the efforts, the Panthers would sink further into the deficit and would end the third down by 32-points.

A lot was going to have to be done to get over the line in this contest and it didn’t happen for the boys in the last.

Finn Emile-Brennan would break the drought after two quarters without a major, his kick from 25-metres while on the run after sliding through the defence providing a positive for the boys in the term.

After this point the side would struggle and allow Centrals to run away with it.

Kobe Mutch was impactful in the middle with his 28 disposals and 13 tackles, but it wasn’t enough.

South battled all day and unfortunately would end with a rough 63-point loss.

The League side's next contest will be against Norwood on Sunday the 30th at Flinders University Stadium in a 2:10pm timeslot.

The Reserves were looking to back up their last performance as they took the fight to Central District in their Round 10 clash.

During the first term, the boys were making it known they were going to put their foot to the gas early.

Zac Earl getting the first major to go through whilst on the move from 20-metres out.

The side wasn’t letting the opposition get anywhere near the ball, as the unrelenting pressure was too much for them to start. During the term, the boys wouldn’t let much get through at all.

Noah Howes and Ryan Borlace would contribute to the lead with their majors across the term, although it was staggered, it was clear that South were doing the right things early.

After the first term, the boys were up by 20-points and looking like they were going to keep the hot streak going.

It was evident that the Reserves were looking to blitz the opposition with quick ball movement and create run off half-back.

The second quarter was a slow burn as the Panthers were chipping away at Bulldogs through their continued pressure acts.

Borlace would kick both of the majors for South during this quarter, getting to his spots with ease and attempting to separate the Panthers even further.

As it turned out, the side would show some cracks and let the first few opposition majors through the tight backline.

At the end of the quarter, the Reserves maintained a 22-point lead and were looking determined ahead of the next half.

The lids were off in the third, with both sides firing away and making this contest look like a true battle.

It was back and forth with Dylan Draper and Dakota Sterzl kicking their first while Borlace would continue to be a force up forward.

Under siege for a majority of the term, it was impressive to see the play of the back six. Contesting every aerial ball and making sure to lock it in when needed.

Despite the efforts, Centrals would bring themselves back into the game and would only leave the Panthers in front by 17-points.

With a quarter to play, the Reserves had to dig deep to get over the line.

Ariki Lowe relieved the pressure with his early majors, providing a nice buffer.

It would fall away for the rest of the term as it was clear the legs were getting heavy. Jonti Schuback fighting with his team high 24 disposals.

The boys would battle and keep the opposition at bay, making sure to keep the pressure up at any cost.

At the end of the day, the Reserves had done enough to get the gutsy 16-point win over Central District.

Their next contest will be against Norwood on Sunday the 30th at Flinders University Stadium in an 11:30am timeslot.
