Panthers Soar Against the Eagles
After a week off, the women’s league side were well rested and ready to face Woodville West-Torrens.
In the first term, both sides made it interesting, going hard at every contest. The Panthers especially making good use of their quick hands at the stoppage.
The forward pressure was bound to yield results for the squad and around 12-minutes in, Emily Brockhurst would deliver and put the girls on the board.
But, Woodville did well to turn it around and reply, leaving the contest in favour of the Panthers by 2-points.
In the second, it was still close between both, as neither side was able to hit the scoreboard with a major, only a selection of minor scores would break through.
The defence pressure was next level as the backline and work rate through the midfield made it a struggle for the opposition. Keeping the eagles to a mere 1-point in the second term.
Tiffany King was an enforcer and with her strong hands, she’d end the contest with 6 marks.
At the end of the half, the league side was up by 4-points, it was still anyone’s game.
During the third, the Panthers put some doubt in Woodville’s mind by putting their foot down.
It started with a series of minor scores until the Panthers finally had a breakthrough.
Shae Archbold would get into a smart position, taking a grab over her defender and making sure to finish her work from 15-metres out.
Then it wasn’t long after until Doreena Hansen was slotting the second major of the term for the league side, putting the squad up by 18-points at the end of the term.
Headed into the last, it was pure lockdown, with Woodville really struggling to get forward as the pressure was too much.
Nikki Nield leading this change as her game high disposals of 20 was backed up by nearly as many tackles with 18. A masterclass of a performance.
The Panthers were on another level and put Woodville away, winning by 20-points.
Their next contest will come against Sturt at Hisense Stadium on the Saturday the 18th in a 12:00pm timeslot.
