3 in 6 Years, Go Panthers!

It was the moment everyone was waiting for, the reason the side had worked so hard, a chance at redemption on the biggest stage.

The Panthers were prepped and ready to face Norwood for the chance to etch their names in the history books by becoming the 2024 Premiers.

It was looking like the perfect day to play some footy, with nothing left but to bring home the trophy.

In the first term, the atmosphere on the ground was electric. The hunt for the ball was immense and the pressure acts from the girls were great.

During the first, it was clear that this contest was going to be a battle to the very last siren.

A breakthrough would eventually transpire after all the efforts made by the Panthers to get though the tough defence.

Melissa Anderson kicked an absolute blinder to start the day off. While on the move, she’d get it onto her boot from 50-metres out, kicking around her body and getting it to travel through the big sticks.

With that score on the board, it would leave the side up by 6-points headed into the second term.

This fierce contest wasn’t turning down the heat anytime soon. During the second quarter, the girls would work well to put their foot down and put some pressure on the opposition.

Stemming from the intense work of the backline, who held their position incredibly, making every entry a battle, causing Norwood to only have 1-point by half time.

The ferocity at the ball was something to behold and it would lead to eventual scores which really shifted the dynamic of the contest.

Shae Archbold kicked a beauty of a set shot from 35-metres out to give the Panthers some breathing room towards the middle of the quarter.

Lauren Clifton would get on the end of a high ball in the goal square, finishing her hard work and giving the Panthers an 18-point lead at the end of the half.

With the first half in the past, the job wasn’t finished and the girls were tested in the rest of the contest.

South struggled to get the ball forward during this quarter, with Norwood tightening up their loose ends.

Luckily enough, the Panthers did well to mitigate any damage that could have transpired, as the opposition would only get one major to go through.

Without the structure down back in this contest, the team would have struggled, playing every minute like it was the last.

At the end of the term, the Panthers maintained the lead by 11-points.

It all came down to the last quarter, no lead was safe and the girls made sure to lock it up.

Struggling to get on the board once again, the team had to grit their teeth and dig deep to hold off any attack.

Caitlin Couch would lead the charge with her pressure acts, ending the contest with 13 tackles out the middle.

A Norwood major during the middle of the quarter would rock the boat, creating some stress to finish the day.

But as it turned out, the Panthers had done enough on the scoreboard early to get themselves over the line and become the 2024 Premiers. Notching their third flag in six years, a tale of sweet triumph and redemption to say the least.

Jordann Hickey was awarded with the best on ground medal, her 21 disposals steering the way, all creating impact for her teammates.

What a season the Women’s League side had. A pleasure to watch and it goes without saying they will be back next year in their effort to go back-to-back!
