Lauren Buchanan to lead Panthers again in 2020
Dual South Adelaide premiership skipper Lauren Buchanan is set to lead the Panthers again in 2020.
Buchanan will lead the Panthers for the third consecutive year after being voted by her peers and coaches.
"Lauren is an outstanding leader both on and off the field, and we're really excited to have her leading the team again in 2020" Said Senior Coach Rick Watts.
"Her nurturing approach to her leadership has really helped with developing our younger players through encouraging elite standards, work ethic and a willingness to learn and develop."
The 2014 Bay-Sheffield winner was co-captain with former Panther Kristi Harvey in 2018, and was the stand alone captain in 2019.
2019 Vice Captain Elyse Haylock (Nee. Haussen) will also return as Buchanan's Vice-Captain, after another consistent year in the blue and white.
"I feel honoured to be recognised as a leader within this young and talented playing group." Said Elyse Haylock
"We have developed a great culture over the last two years, and I'm excited to continue to develop this as it will be integral to our success in 2020"
2019 SAFCW Best and Fairest Czenya Cavouras will join other first-time leaders in Tiffany Copley, Teah Charlton and Sam Pratt.
"It is an absolute honour to have the opportunity to play with, let alone be chosen to help lead, such an amazing playing group." Said Sam Pratt
"Regardless of the title, the other leaders and I have a passion to help develop our teammates both on and off the field."
When talking about the leadership make up, Watts touch on how it was important to have a under-18 player represented in the leadership group.
"With such a young team, it was fantastic to see Teah Charlton selected to be a part of the leadership group."
"As a coaching group we felt that with such a young team, it would be great to have that segment represented"
"It's really exciting to see these players step up into a leadership position"
Watts also talked about the importance of members and supporters getting on board as a South Adelaide Member.
"We have without a doubt the best supporters in the league, but it's also crucial that people get on board as a member"
"A South Adelaide Women's Membership not only shows your support for the Girls, but also ensures that the club can still support the program financially"
The 2020 SANFL StateWide Super Women's League season kicks off next Friday, February 14 at Flinders University Stadium against the Eagles.
Entry to the game will be via a gold coin donation, with all proceeds being donated to the ongoing bush fire recovery effort.
