The Panthers Under-18s bounced back this week with a sold four quarter performance against North Adelaide, running out 15.7 (97) to 4.8 (32) winners at Hickinbotham Oval on Saturday afternoon.
This game was significant in that it was our annual Sammy Davis memorial game.
We had Sam's parents Nat and Neil in the rooms after the game to present the "Sammy D" Medal to the player who displayed the most Courage, Commitment and Spirit throughout the game.
Congratulations to Tom Sparrow for winning the Sammy D Medal this year. Tom played an exceptional game in the midfield in his first game back in the team since his school football commitments started in late April.
The game started well with our guys kicking five goals with the help of a strong breeze in the first quarter.
The midfield group did very well to win contested ball early and allowed the game to be played in our front half. The forwards worked extra hard to hold the ball in our forward 50 and apply pressure to the opposition and give us scoring opportunities.
In the second quarter, North had the wind and looked dangerous at times getting some clean ball from the centre square.
When we won the ball back we were able to maintain possession well on most occasions and keep the ball out of dangerous areas.
North kicked 2.2 to our 2.1 for the quarter.
After halftime the team addressed some focus areas highlighted by the coaches during the long break and continued their dominance in the midfield battle.
The midfield continued their hard work to win the contested ball battle while the backs did their job in rebounding many of Norths scoring movements.
The forward line worked well in both offense and defence and were able to adapt to the windy conditions very well.
Our guys scored 8.5 to 2.4 in the second half to win by 65 points.
It was pleasing to see the players accept the responsibility of correcting some improvement areas from the loss the week before against Norwood.
We now get ready for another hard contest against Centrals out at Elizabeth this week.
