The season has unfortunately come to an end for South Adelaide's Under-16s after falling to a 7.7 (49) to 11.11 (77) defeat against Norwood at the Parade on Wednesday night.
Playing under lights in perfect conditions, but coming up against the top side with home ground advantage, our Semi Final was always going to offer a challenge.
We got off to a slow start with Norwood kicking two goals within eight minutes. The Redlegs converted one from outside 50 and the other on a difficult angle.
To our boys credit the dug deep and managed to have four shots on goal and two more inside 50's than the opposition. Unfortunately we didn't capitalise on these opportunities and going in at quarter time we found ourselves 17 points down.
In the second quarter the boys showed great fight to work our way back into the contest and hit the front midway through the quarter.
Through a couple of crucial errors we allowed Norwood to kick a couple late and we trailed by just 10 points at the main break.
During the third quarter we had a number of opportunities to hurt the opposition on the scoreboard but could not capitalise. We went into the last change 21 points down.
We encouraged the players to take the game on and take risks in the last quarter. We certainly did that and had multiple chances but once again did not hit the scoreboard.
Eventually we fell short by 28 points.
We were super proud of the effort from our entire squad this season and firmly believe they have developed and come a long way.
That said, we as a club are not satisfied to lose a semi final as this is why we play football, to win finals and premierships.
Thank you to all the support staff and parents for your commitment and help with our program this year.
