Back from a much-deserved break over gather round the women’s league team were faced with a handy unit in West Adelaide.
In pristine conditions at Flinders University Stadium, it was sure to be a great day out.
Headed into the first term neither squad was able to kick a major score, but Cheyenne Hammond was building up towards a big stat line, ending on 19 disposals.
It was a real defensive masterclass with the league team making every possession earnt for the opposition.
South Adelaide would trail going into the second quarter by 2 points.
In the latter half of the second term the Panthers would hit the score board with a goal.
The breakthrough would come from Indy Tahau after she took a leap in the midst of a contest and come down with the mark.
Lining up from 25-metres out the set shot was bang on. Giving the panthers their first goal of the contest.
The second would close with South Adelaide in the lead by three points.
In the third term the women’s league team were up forward for most of the quarter and would kick a major score early.
It was recent milestone player Lucy Northcott who would kick a goal while being dragged down in front of the sticks. Keeping compossed and following through.
After a flurry of minor scores, the quarter would end with West Adelaide still unable to kick a major score.
It was the efforts of players like Taylah Levy which were making the scoring opportunities possible as she garnered plenty of the ball, providing 20 disposals.
The inaccuracies around goal were causing issues, however all was fixed in the fourth. The Panthers would pile on four major scores creating a blow out for West Adelaide.
First of these was from a quick entrance which saw a high ball end in Jordann Hickey’s hands and on the slight angle from 25-metres out the kick was smooth, going through for the first goal of the term.
The next two would come from Elise Barwick. With her first coming from a quick outlet pass right in front of goal, getting the handball, following with her swift kick.
After a short lapse she would strike again in similar fashion, receiving the quick handball and putting it onto her boot from 30-metres out.
Lastly, Senna Gulden would put the final nail in the coffin after she would get the football directly in the square running on a finishing just as quick.
West Adelaide was unable to kick a goal as South Adelaide were too strong, winning the game convincingly.
The Panthers next contest will come against Glenelg on Saturday, April 29th at Stratarama Stadium.
