Club Statement: Unley Oval Fencing
The South Adelaide Football Club supports Sturt Football Club and the City of Unley exploring the idea of installing a permanent perimeter fence with public openings around Thomas Farms Oval, Unley.
Currently for every SANFL match day at Unley, as well as AFLW games, Sturt Football Club is required to have costly and unattractive temporary fencing installed around the venue’s perimeter.
This temporary solution for every home match day not only spoils what is an historic SANFL venue, but is a poor look for the local community on match days.
It is hoped through this process that an appropriate and aesthetically pleasing design solution which meets the needs of the Sturt Football Club on match days and the community at all other times.
A permanent perimeter fence will not only greatly enhance the match day amenity at Unley Oval, but ensure $30,000 a year can be far better spent on the game.
South Adelaide therefore fully supports Sturt Football Club in its endeavour to have permanent fencing installed that can benefit football and the wider community.
The City of Unley is now seeking community feedback before progressing with the feasibility of permanent fencing and design concepts.
