BETTA Team Selection: SANFL Round 1 v Sturt
The 2025 Hostplus SANFL League season is set to get underway for the Panthers on Saturday afternoon as they go head-to-head with the Double Blues in what promises to be an exciting season opener.
With a mix of fresh talent and experienced players, the Panthers are eager to make a strong start. Among the new recruits are Brad Jefferies (Sturt), who will be facing his former team, along with Tom Gillett (Sherwood), Ben Ashley-Cooper (Lavington), Will McCarthy (Wangaratta Rovers), Will Splann (Central District), and returning Panther junior Jaiden Magor (Mypong/Sellicks).
Local product Blake Rodrigues (Reynella) and Norwood recruit Nich Weightman (Norwood) will also be making their much-anticipated debuts for the club.
Ahead of the season opener, Jaiden Magor caught up with SANFL’s Zac Milbank to talk about his return to Magain Stadium, reflecting on his journey back to the club and what it means to wear the Panthers jumper at league level for the first time.
Meanwhile, Senior Coach Jarrad Wright also sat down with Zac Milbank to share his thoughts on the team’s preseason preparation, key areas of improvement, and what fans can expect from the side in 2025.
The Reserves will also take on the Double Blues, looking to build momentum early and set the tone for a strong campaign in 2025.
After a competitive run last year, they’ll be aiming for a return to Finals action, and a winning start on Saturday would be a huge boost for the side.
