Vale Brett Knuckey
The South Adelaide Football Club is deeply saddened to announce the passing of long time volunteer Brett Knuckey.
Brett served the club as a massage therapist with dedication from 2009, commuting weekly from Birdwood for trainings and games.
A passionate South Adelaide supporter from a young age, Brett's connection to the club ran deep.
His grandfather, Charles Knuckey, donated the silver cup awarded annually to the fairest and most brilliant player, now known as the Knuckey Cup.
Brett proudly upheld the family tradition by presenting the Knuckey Cup until 2019, when he had to step back due to COVID and illness. Even then, he continued to visit the club on game days and training nights, showing his unwavering support for the Panthers.
South Adelaide CEO Neill Sharpe said Brett genuinely went out of his way to volunteer at the Panthers.
“Brett would regularly travel a decent distance to get to training and games. He knew the players would grumble if they couldn’t get a massage."
“He was so humble and generous with his time. He understood his family’s legacy at the Club and went out of his way to maintain it."
“Football Clubs are so much the better for having people like Brett Knuckey.”
Our thoughts are with Brett's wife Jane, his family, and friends during this difficult time.
In his honour, the players will wear black armbands on Saturday.
