The South Adelaide Reserves register their first win of 2020 in style, defeating West Adelaide by 56 points at Flinders University Stadium on Saturday.
With the smallest of leads at halftime, the Panthers stormed home and booted nine second-half goals to one to win their first match of the season, 15.11 (101) to 7.3 (45).
Impressive in the blue and white was Tom Whittlesea with three goals, as was South's new recruit Ben Sawford who made his Panther debut on the weekend.
After a string of disappointing losses the Panthers headed into their Round Five clash winless and faced off against the sixth-placed Bloods. But with the side bolstered by returning players, the Panthers started off as the better of the two sides and held a narrow 4.1 (25) to 3.1 (19) lead at the first change.
With Jack Elsworthy and Justin Evans both playing well, the Panthers continued to match it with the Bloods during the second term and held a very slight 6.4 (40) to 6.3 (39) lead at the main break.
Looking back on the previous rounds, the Panthers had always seemed to struggle after halftime, but coming out for the third term of this match it looked as if it was South Adelaide's turn to repay the favour.
As a credit to the Panthers defence, they managed to hold the Bloods to just one goal for the third quarter while at the other end, the Panthers managed to boot three goals to increase their lead to 15 points at the final change.
Jake McCreery and Jesse McKinnon continued to be impressive for the Panthers as the side continued to run away with the game during the final term. South Adelaide managed to hold the visitors scoreless during the fourth quarter, while they booted six unanswered goals to come out on top with an impressive 15.11 (101) to 7.3 (45) win.
In another positive for the Panthers, the side finished the match with ten individual goalkickers, with only Whittlesea, McCreery, and Tarik Illingworth kicking multiple goals.
The rejuvenated Panthers now face North Adelaide at Prospect Oval on Saturday August 1, from 11:30am.
