South Fall to North
After the league side had notched their first win of the season, the vibe at the club was up and it was great to see.
Getting over that hump has opened the door for a run to start, and with a milestone game for Ollie Davis notching his 50th game in this contest, the boys had a purpose to play for.
Round 8 had the side lining up against North Adelaide, in great conditions, the stage was set, and the league side were ready.
North Adelaide was impressive in the first quarter, putting up a fair display and making it a challenge from the jump for the League side.
With the backline under siege for most of the term with no real relief.
Noah Howes was able to secure a breakthrough before the 18-minute mark, he’d shake off his defender like it was nothing and run into the open goal after a broken-up play.
The pressure acts weren’t at the level they needed to be at the start of this game, allowing North to play their style of game.
The first quarter would end with the League side down by 33-points, less than ideal for the team.
During the second, it was clear the message was to lock down at any cost, making sure to rebound after turnovers.
The Panthers doing well to stop any run early, even getting Howes on the end of his second major in this quarter, that being the only major for the squad.
North would keep the scoreboard pressure up, but it was clear the League side were battling hard at every contest.
At the end of the half, the Panthers were down by 36-points, with plenty of time left, anything was possible.
The side would tighten up in this quarter and made every contest a challenge for the opposition. No ball was easy for them and it was evident the pressure was the best it had been all game.
Eamon Wilkinson was a major contributor in this quarter as his two majors helped bring the boys back in it, putting his crafty skills to use in the desperate times.
Despite the defensive presence, the turnaround into offence wasn’t as prevalent. It wasn't until the last minutes of the quarter where the boys would do some damage.
Damon Freitag kicked a beauty after a blunder from the opposition, getting the hard ball and snapping around his body from 25-metres out, just before the 22nd minute.
A late reply would hurt the Panthers but despite this it was a positive quarter. Ending the term in the exact same position, down by 36-points.
A lot had to be done to amount a response and it was going to be a tough ask.
Liam Fitt would kick one early and provided a glimmer of hope. His goal unexpected to say the least as he’d throw the ball on his boot out the stoppage, while getting dragged down he’d guide the footy through.
North did well to fire back and lock up the League side, making it near impossible in this quarter to operate.
Hayden Sampson would slot his first at the 13-minute mark, getting the receive handball and turning on the jets through the middle, he was a force in the contest as he’d create at any opportunity, ending the game with a team high 26 disposals.
With time running low and the style of footy being quite slow, it wasn’t looking like a comeback was going to happen. The backline trying to get it moving fast but the setup from North mitigated this run.
Wilkinson would kick his third while running full tilt into the goal square, dribbling it through but, it was too late, the side struggling to bring the game back into contention.
Davis was great in his 50th game, working hard to get the ball and distribute with intent, ending with a respectable 24 disposals and 5 tackles.
The League side would go down by 38-points. Looking ahead, they will face Adelaide on Saturday the 8th of June at Flinders University Stadium in a 1:10pm timeslot.

It’s been a tough couple weeks for the Reserves as they have been struggling to get back into the winner’s circle. Round 8s contest against North Adelaide was their next chance.
The Panthers were set up well to start as North were struggling to breakthrough. Making sure to rebound fast from down back.
While North would get on the board with some pace the boys did well to steady the ship.
Chester Foster and Bailey Pilmore would kick their majors in swift succession, shifting the game favourably. A few extra behinds would hurt their drive but keep their aspirations alive.
It was a competitive contest to start, the boys doing well to mitigate the run and make sure to attack in their own time.
With a 1-point lead, the intensity had to lift to get anywhere near the victory line in this contest.
Despite Nic Dunshea doing well to navigate through traffic and slot his first on the day, North Adelaide were ferocious at the start of this term.
It was a challenge to get the ball anywhere up forward and the backline were under the pump for most of the quarter.
The boys would start to deliver it late with Corey Grocock securing two majors in the last minutes. Inaccuracy was starting to affect the game for the Panthers.
At half time it was only a 2-point game, with the Panthers looking ready to pounce at the chance.
A strong start from the opposition wasn’t ideal as the ball movement from the Reserves would get disrupted quite regularly in this quarter.
Foster and his second goal was the only reserves major in the quarter, doing all he could around the sticks to bring the boys back in it.
Despite the lack of majors, the intent was still there, and it was still a high-pressure affair across the ground but down back, the Panthers were battling.
A slow quarter with a few missed opportunities left the Reserves down by 14-points headed into the last.
Unfortunately, this theme would follow into the last, as the opposition would put the contest away. Cooper Rogers doing all he could with his team high 28 disposals and 9 tackles.
Grocock was impactful also, finishing with 3 majors, securing that final one in this quarter off an impressive action.
It was a siege from North and the Panthers did all they could down back. But the series of minor scores on the other end wasn’t enough to bring the squad back in it.
The Reserves would go down by 35-points. Their next chance will come against West Adelaide on Saturday the 8th of June at Flinders University Stadium in a 10:20am timeslot.
