The Panthers Claim Back-to-Back Wins!
The League side were looking to back up their last performance and continue their winning streak, faced against West Adelaide on the turf of Flinders University Stadium, the boys were looking to perform at home.
It was also a very exciting day for young Dakota Sterzl, lacing up for his first League game. Carrying a prestigious legacy with him, it was evident that he ready for the big day and it goes without saying, he was sure to make an impact.
In the first quarter, it was a battle getting forward, the mental game taking stage right away. South had to play all four quarters to ensure a victory in this one.
Moving around the ground wasn’t easy but when their chances arose, they made sure to use them.
West Adelaide slotted one early which applied the pressure swiftly, but Corey Grocock would do well to slot the first major for the Panthers.
Down back, the boys locked in early and did well on the ground to create stoppages so the rest of the squad could operate.
It was a slow start and the term would end with the League side down by 1-point.
The battle continued in the second quarter as both sides continued to keep the pressure at a high level, making navigating through the traffic a task.
Sam Hindes slotted one early, his set shot from beyond fifty was nothing short of spectacular.
It would become quite congested after this, as neither side could make an impact.
Defence would be the important factor in this game. It was evident the Panthers were working hard in this aspect, with a mention to Jonti Schuback having had a definitive impact.
Arlo Draper would get on the end of his set shot, providing a late major. By the end of the half, South were still down by 1-point.
It couldn’t have been more competitive. The League side were right in it and continued to work in the third term.
Westies would do well early to put the pressure on. These boys were ready to work for it though.
Liam Fitt would slot his first in the middle of the term, while Grocock would get on the end of his second in impressive fashion.
The Panthers weren't giving up and it is worth noting the ball movement in this term was fluent when in possession.
It was hard to separate these sides and it would remain tight headed into the last quarter, with South down by 7-points.
With a quarter to play and a victory incredibly close, the Panthers were prepared to do what it takes.
The boys would run away with it in this term, finally cashing in on their hard work and putting some numbers on the board.
Sid Draper, Elliot Dunkin, Eamon Wilkinson and Phoenix Hargrave would all slot their first majors in this quarter, each doing well when the moment presented itself. While Grocock would seal his great day off with a classy third major.
The defensive pressure was intense, with the opposition struggling to get much through the brick wall which had been created down back.
In the middle, the boys would work to create for the rest of the team. Hayden Sampson would dominate and end the contest with a team high 29 disposals, while Kobe Mutch would lay 13 tackles.
It was a clinic, and the Panthers would get over the line to make it back-to-back wins.
The vibes were up, and the boys were headed into the week off on a high note. Their next game will be against Norwood on Saturday the 10th of August at Norwood Oval in a 2:10pm timeslot.

The Reserves have been on a roll lately, winning their last few contests. The Panthers were looking to extend this against West Adelaide on the home deck.
It was a contested first quarter, with both sides battling hard to get possession and make an impact on the contest.
Bailey Pilmore kicked the first major of the day while on the move, a nice snap from distance.
The boys would keep a lid on it for most of the term, until a late run, which left the Reserves behind.
It was going to be a marathon in this contest and after the first quarter, there was just 6-points separating the sides.
During the second, it was quite competitive. South doing well to navigate through traffic and perform around the stoppage.
Hugo Hoeck would slot one early to start the term on a positive note. While Cooper Rogers would secure his first and Pilmore would get on the end of his second in the middle portion of the term.
Down back, it was evident that the task was set. Every entry was made a challenge, with the transition off the half-back line creating up the ground.
Pressure was the name of the game, and the Panthers were doing well at winning this section of the contest.
By the end of the half, the Reserves had earnt a 1-point lead, setting up an intense second half.
The third quarter had South's stamp on it, as they dominated in this term. Doing well to get up forward, as well as hold off any play being made by the opposition.
It was a slow start as the ball was hard to get a hold of, but the boys persevered and made it work.
Zac Earl, Tom Wheaton, and Scott Bedford would all slot their first, helping build the run towards a strong lead. Hoeck would also secure his second in what was a great offensive display.
West Adelaide struggled to do anything in the quarter as the pressure was next level.
By the end of the impressive third quarter, the Reserves had created a 26-point lead.
In the final quarter, the boys kept their foot down and did well to maintain the advantage, not dropping in any way.
It was impressive watching the team go to work around the ground as they took everything that came their way head on.
Patrick Shay would get on the end of his first, while Wheaton would slot his second early. Alongside this, he’d lead disposal getters with 32 on the day. A huge performance out the middle.
West Adelaide would do well to break their drought, but it wasn’t enough. The Reserves holding strong and getting over the line.
It has been more and more positive for the Reserves as they continue to build towards finals. Their next contest will be against Norwood on Saturday the 10th of August at Norwood oval in an 11:30am timeslot.
