Panthers Make It Four In a Row
it has been a while since the women’s league side has laced up and coming back to a game against Sturt was sure to be a spectacle.
The first term was a battle as neither side was able to get on the board with a major.
South doing well to stop the movement of Sturt behind the ball.
Jordann Hickey was noticeable during the first and it was clear she was in for a big game; she’d end up with a team high 23 disposals.
The second term is where the game began to heat up. Laquoiya Cockatoo-Motlap would slot a beauty while on the move to get the Panthers on the board.
This was only the beginning of the scoring for the league side during the second.
Jorja Hooper would take a strong mark near the square and do well to finish her work.
It would be some time before the next major but in the lapse the girls didn’t back down. Sturt were unable to score during the term and it was clear the league side were hungry after their break.
Lily Baxter just before the 18-minute mark would provide a much-appreciated major. After she got loose from a pack and slotted it close to the boundary.
This was followed up by Emily Brockhurst and her reliable set shot. Sealing the quarter off nicely and providing the league side with a 22-point lead headed into the third.
South were all over it in the first half and it seemed like it was going to be an easy ride home, but footy isn’t an easy sport and Sturt would reply well.
Keeping the panthers scoreless in during the quarter. While providing two majors of their own.
It was looking scary ahead of the fourth as the league side were holding onto a 7-point lead.
Laquoiya Cockatoo-Motlap would ease the nerves of the squad with her second. This being the final goal for the panthers.
Despite a reply from the opposition the league side got over the line.
Nikki Nield was a major player for the Panthers as her game high 13 tackles and impressive 20 disposals gave the squad an edge in the contest. The league side getting up by a close 9-points.
The next chance for the women’s league side will come against Central Districts in the Grand Final rematch on Saturday the 20th at Flinders University Stadium in a 3:50pm timeslot.

After the first loss of the season in the round 2 catchup game the development league side were looking to get back into the winner’s circle.
Faced against Sturt at Thebarton oval it was a chance for redemption.
It was a tough fought first quarter with the squad struggling to mitigate the ball movement of the opposition.
Jess Kirk found herself having a big game, her first major coming early in the contest after a botched switch kick came loose.
Sturt would bounce back and leave the girls behind by 6-points headed into the second. But as it turned out the game was about to get out of hand.
The Panthers would kick away during the second and leave the opposition in the dust. Kirk kicking a belter to shift the momentum early.
Bonnie Dodds would slot her first in impressive fashion and allow the development squad to begin their siege.
Lucy Northcottfollowed up with her set-shot and the ball was well and truly rolling.
Headed into the third up by 14-points gave the girls room to get creative and build a lead.
They would do just that in the third as they would keep Sturt scoreless once again. Northcott and Dodds would both kick their second and it was looking like a blow-out was about to ensue.
Nothing was getting in the squad’s way during this term, and it was only a matter of time before the win was chalked up.
At the start of the fourth the girls were up by 27-points and this lead kept on building in the fourth.
Abby Woodward and Shae Archbold were damaging in the contest and their majors only added to it.
It was an amazing display that the Panthers put on, getting up by 45-points.
As it stands, the Panthers are a game and percentage clear in second, with the top two teams playing off in the Grand Final.
The final round will see the development league side face against Central Districts on Saturday the 20th at Flinders University Stadium in a 6:00pm timeslot.
