A Clutch Win Against the Bloods.
The Women’s League side have been impressive as of late and were looking to continue that against West Adelaide in Round 11.
In the first term it was competitive, as both sides were making sure to keep the pressure up.
Westies would start with the first major, but it was great to see that the girls would fight back swiftly.
Emily Brockhurst was clean with her hands and found herself 20-metres out in front, the set shot was smooth, and the Panthers were on the board.
Making sure to keep the backline strong was a key aspect of the game for the Panthers.
The term would end with the side up by 1-point.
There was a shift at the start of the quarter as the opposition would fire back in a big way, with two majors in quick succession.
It could have been much worse, but the girls made sure to not let it get out of hand.
Slowing chipping away for the rest of the quarter, Doreena Hansen and Shae Archbold both helping in a big way with their majors.
Not letting up at any point over the quarter, truly showing the heart of this team.
A series of minor scores would help in differentiating the sides on the scoreboard, and the Panthers would head into the second half up by 4-points.
It was an interesting third term as South were unable to score with a major, while Westies would claim the lead back.
Nikki Nield was impactful on ball with her pressure, ending the game with a team high 12-tackles, she’d garner the ball with great success also, finishing with 28 disposals.
The tension between the sides was building all game and it was going to go down to the wire.
South would be down by 3-points at the end of the quarter.
In the final term, both sides were inseparable and with the margin as tight as it was, any score was going to create an impact.
Luckily enough Archbold would fire away with her second major at a critical time.
Extending the lead to 2-points, plenty of time was still on the clock for a change to happen.
Westies would follow with a minor score, and it was a 1-point game. It would stay this way for the rest of the contest, leaving the Panthers winning by the skin of their teeth.
It was a gutsy performance, and the hope is that the Women’s League side can continue the work against North Adelaide on the 2nd of June at Prospect Oval in an 11:45am timeslot.
