Under-16s hold on to get the job done while the Under-18s suffer a brutal 1 point loss.
The start of a new season is always a highlight of the year and the Under-18 South Adelaide side is more ready than ever.
In round one being faced with a tough opposition in Norwood it was going to be a chance for the boys to see where they are at.
The under 18’s came out strong kicking the first two major scores of the game.
It was Thomas Schirmer who would kick the first panther goal of the year after held onto the mark and slotted it through from thirty out.
Then Taylor Goad kicked the next off of an impressive set shot just short of fifty went through.
The next two majors would go to Norwood, and it seemed as if it would be a stalemate headed into the second.
But Phoenix Hargrave was awarded the late free kick near goal and allowed South to kick their third and final of the term.
The difficult marks up forward over multiple defenders continued as Jaxon Hams magically held onto a high ball amongst third Norwood players. Making no mistake on the tight angle the ball sailed through.
The third term was a different story as Norwood caught a second wind kicking three unanswered goals early.
In the scoring lapse Jake Agnew would fight hard and continue to put on a great display.
South managed to have a late one go through as Ryan Borlace finished his set shot giving the panthers the lead again.
It was a close fight for the whole day and the fourth quarter would be make or break.
Unfortunately, Norwood struck early on in the quarter again and would go on to kick the first three goals of the term. Despite a late surge it wasn’t enough.
Delean kicked his second giving the boys some hope.
Followed by Sid Draper with the flying boot off the hospital ball would go through, meaning South were only down by a point.
The game would end with South down by a point as the boys were unable to hit the scoreboard again.
Sights are set on next week’s opponent as the Under-18’s face Central Districts in a chance for redemption.

It is exciting for everyone at South Adelaide to finally see the youth of the club ready for round 1 action, after an intense pre-season it goes without saying the boys are keen to be back out there.
Faced with cooler conditions the boys would lace up ready to play against the opponent in Norwood.
It was an incredibly close game throughout, and it came down to the midfield and clearance work in the middle and around the ground as both teams proved to be deadly near goal.
The first term saw two major scores first of these coming early from Thomas Simpson who had lined up directly in front with a set shot making sure to finish the job.
Shortly after South would concede and hit back with their second, coming from Noah Kliems Carlaw. With an impressive tap on and pick up streaming forward it went through.
The second term was no different as it again was back and forth between the teams. Similar to the first another two major scores were added by South.
One from Cameron Woods early after a smooth set shot on the slight angle went through, then followed by Brodie Bretones ten minutes after when he got the go-ahead goal from a set shot.
Norwood kept coming and held onto the lead going into the 3rd quarter. In this term South would kick away.
It was Kliems Carlaw who would get the snap to come off for his second within the first minute of the term.
This is when it became the Jacob McGarry show as he went on to kick the next three major scores for the Panthers.
Demonstrating his poise and skilfulness around packs and near goal.
The fourth Quarter with the job seemingly finished South were unable to kick another goal, leaving the floodgates open for the Redlegs to claw back.
In the scoring lapse however, Cain Florance shinned as he continued to add on the touches to his impressive game, finishing on 24 disposals.
Norwood was unable to complete the comeback as South managed to get the win in round one.
Preparations will begin for next week’s opponent in Central District who will be hungry after a crushing loss.
